Private boats in El Nido are priced on a formula — a rate for two people plus a stated amount per additional person — which means the shared-vs-private question has an actual answer that changes with your headcount. This page runs the published numbers for every size from solo to eight.

The honest headline: at published rates, private never gets cheap. Even at eight people the Tour A outrigger works out at ₱2,525 per person against a shared spread of ₱1,200–1,500. The per-person cost falls as the group grows, but it never crosses the shared price. A private boat buys the schedule, the route order and the empty deck — not a discount. Any page telling you a private charter "costs about the same per head" is not doing this arithmetic.
